On February 22nd, 2009 Heath Ledger was posthumously awarded an Academy Award. Ledger died on January 22nd, 2008 from an accidental overdose.
Ledger is the only actor to win the Best Supporting Actor category posthumously. Ledger follows in the steps of Peter Finch, who was posthumously named best actor more than 30 years ago for his performance in 1976’s “Network.”
Ledger won for his amazing performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight.
