Anon video received alleging assault by OPP officer already on criminal charges for assault

Hungry Monkey received a video from an anonymous source claiming to be of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer, Bailey Nicholls, which clearly shows a female OPP astride a prone suspect, repeatedly strike the suspect in the face with what looks like handcuffs.

The video nor the officers have been identified at this time.

Const. Bailey Nicholls is currently facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm. The officer is set to appear in court in February.

According to a news release issued Wednesday, the incident happened 01:15 a.m. on Sept 7th, when OPP officers arrested a 43-year-old woman outside the Studabakers Beachside in Orillia, transporting her to the local detachment.

The SIU states that while in the cell, something happened between the woman and an officer, but the news release offered no further details about what actually occurred.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment. She then returned to hospital two days later, and subsequently diagnosed with a serious injury, according to the news release.

The SIU also noted in the release that the issue wasn’t raised by any police service, but was brought to the attention of the police watchdog by a member of the public in April of 2020 — seven months after the alleged incident occurred.

The anonymous correspondence added specifically that the OPP intentionally failed to notify the OPP and did a deep clean of the cell after the female victim was released.
