Barrie Police Inspector charged with misconduct under police service act

A Barrie Police Inspector has been charged with misconduct under the Police Services Act.

Following an investigation by the OPP professional standards bureau Insp. Kevin McLean was charged with discreditable conduct.

McLean, a 26-year veteran, was investigated following an allegation of an on-duty internal incident late 2020.

Chief Kimberley Greenwood requested the assistance of the OPP to ensure transparency and accountability, after receipt of the complaint.

Greenwood said, “When an allegation against an officer is received, it is taken very seriously. The Barrie Police Service holds its members accountable while on duty and off duty and recognizes that public trust and confidence is a cornerstone of policing.”.

McLean has been reassigned to alternative duties pending the outcome.

McLean’s first appearance before a disciplinary panel is on March 4 where the exact allegations will be made public.
