Ottawa police officer charged with assault and mischief

Ottawa, Canada – A detective from Ottawa police guns and gangs unit has been charged with assault and mischief.

Det. Brandi Fraser was arrested Wednesday and is charged with two counts of assault, one count of mischief and one count of careless storage of her duty firearm.

Police announced the charges on Friday, but did not name the officer, citing respect for the alleged victim’s privacy. An internal email announcing her suspension to officers was also issued Friday. It also did not name the officer.

According to police the allegations relate to two separate incidents, one in December and one in February. Both are alleged to have occurred while Fraser was off duty.

Fraser was suspended with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act, which governs Ontario police officers.

Fraser has been a city police officer for more than 15 years and previously worked in the drug unit.

Police said professional standards are also investigating.

None of the allegations against Fraser have yet been tested.
