Riots intensify in Northern Ireland post Brexit

Belfast, Northern Ireland – A hijacked bus was set on fire in Belfast as for the sixth continuous night violence escalated on the streets of Northern Ireland. 

Prime minister Boris Johnson stated he was “deeply concerned by the scenes” after the double-decker was meet with a volley of petrol bombs in the west of the city.

The attack was one of numerous incidents on Wednesday evening on the peace line street linking the nationalist Springfield Road and the loyalist Shankill Road.

Projectiles were thrown at police and a member of the press was assaulted as crowds formed in the area, while petrol bombs were thrown from either side of the peace line’s dividing wall.

The violence followed previous nights of unrest in loyalist communities cause by tensions over Northern Ireland’s Brexit Protocol and the authorities handling of alleged coronavirus regulation breaches by Sinn Fein at the funeral of republican Bobby Storey.
